Video: Raging bulls never disappoint

Written by Kurt | Friday, 12 October 2012 18:56

Disproportionate proportions, a mighty growl, an aggressive stance, a fiery hue covering the masculine shapes. No, we are in fact not talking about some wonderful creature from the animal kingdom here, we are actually talking about a car. It might not come as a surprise but we are actually talking about a Lamborghini Miura here, a P400S. But, I can imagine it might sound like some commentary usually found on the pages of National Geographic Magazine. due to the animalistic nature of these cars, one usually ends up, when describing them, with some misty sentence that could well be used to describe a raging bull. Which is probably why there is a raging bull in Lamborghini's logo (okay this is not the official story of course, but it's a good story and helps keeping this blob of text from dragging on too much). What is comes down to, is that a Miura is a fascinating car, picture perfect, or film perfect. Some man on the interweb obviously thought the same, which is why he made the video above. Finally a good quality video from the passenger seat, some knowledgeable comments here and there, but above all it comes with a great sound track. It's not a hugely exciting drive but it's certainly one of those videos that manage to capture the essence of a car's character very well.

Video: Vorsprung durch Technik

Written by Kurt | Thursday, 20 September 2012 22:38

vorsprung durch technik audi advertising sloganLooking through the Guardian's series of articles on Germany I happened to stumble across a very interesting a video here for those that have an interest in advertising, and in this case advertising cars. Now we've all heard the Audi slogan 'Vorsprung durch Technik,' but how come it became a catchphrase even in the english-speaking world and became synonymous with German prowess as whole in the 1980s? Sir John Hegarty, the British ad man responsible for dusting off the slogan, which he found on an old poster during an Audi factory visit, rekindles how the campaign came to fruition. Further down on this page the original video ad that made the campaign such a success. What strucks me is the apparent ease with which narrator Geoffrey Palmer talks his way through the ad, effortlessy explaining in a few sentences and with little words that actually have nothing to do with the technical advancements of the car why an Audi is so much better technically than competitors. Closing with a cheeky: "If you wanna get on the beach before the Germans, you better buy an Audi 100. Vorsprung durch Technik as they say in Germany." Hear, hear as they say in British parliament.

Video: Lotus Elan vs Mazda MX-5 Super 20

By lack of home-made car reviews by TheRetromobilist (as I can't see anyone granting us an Elan to test at the moment, or is there anyone who's kind enough to do so?) we feature one hell of an interesting duel between the classis Lotus Elan and the brand-new Mazda MX-5 Super 20. Well, I say duel, it's more of a huge laudation to the Elan really. In addition to that, the guys from American magazine 'Car and Driver' have chosen an equally legendary track (Laguna Seca) to test these cars as well. Motoring journalist Sam Smith guides us through both cars with much passion and knowledge. Unsurprisingly, the concept MX-5 Super 20 (or any MX-5) was inspired by the Elan which is why his choice for these two cars and his opinions make so much sense. Make sure you watch it!

Video: Prada Spring/Summer 2012

Normally we wouldn't dare showing stuff related to fashion brands on here, but this time should be an exception. Above you see a video for the Spring/Summer 2012 collection by Prada, why? Well, simply because there are quite a few classic cars to behold beside the pretty models clad in retro clothes and accessories. All clearly inspired by the 1950s. To complement this whole digital fashion show Prada chose to feature the models on top and in some classic American cars at a 50s petrol station (or gas station if you are of the american-english persuasion). Some with questionable paint schemes but all decidingly projecting the American dream in the 50s. Big, heavy machines with lots of chrome and huge steering wheels. Oh yes, if you do decide to watch the video, turn off the sound, which is totally not from the 1950s!

Monaco Historic GP + Frazer Nash + Camera = fabulous footage

Written by Kurt | Sunday, 24 June 2012 14:37

Just take a moment to appreciate this wonderful cacophony of noise brought to you by the six cylinders of this Frazer Nash Le Mans Rep's Bristol engine. Slithering through the narrow streets of Monte Carlo at this year's Monaco Historic GP is its driver Patrick Blakeney-Edwards, desperately trying to keep up with race leader Alex Buncombe in a Jaguar C-Type. As the laps go by the Jag disappears out of view bit by bit, there was a good excuse for that; the Frazer Nash had to retire due to a suspension problem. Nevertheless take in the few minutes of fantastic onboard video while the car was going around the track in a spectacular manner. As you can see from the images this is a pretty hairy machine to drive, oversteering on practically every corner, skinny tyres don't help much of course nor do suspension problems but I guess this is very much the character of cars of that age. Now turn up the volume of your speakers, put the youtube video on 720p and enjoy..
